You are the Child of God

You are so worthy to God - you are His child

Throughout the Bible, God declares His love towards you and me (John 3:16, 1 John 4:9-10, 1 John 4:19, Zephaniah 3:17, and many more). Even though I have heard of God’s love all my life, I didn’t truly understand His love towards me until I became a mother. No matter what my son does, I still love him, even when he . . .

  • throws a tantrum in the middle of the store, or

  • has a huge meltdown in the church parking lot making every passing person question my ability as a mother,

  • He runs away from me when we are spending time outside exploring the world or playing at the playground,

  • He disobeys me by removing outlet protection so he can touch them with his hands,

  • throws his dinner on the floor just because it’s fun, or

  • touches his hair with dirty hands from food just so it will stink for the whole day.

When these things happen, I still love him and nothing makes me withdraw myself or reject him. I do not look for ways of punishing him. I have no desire to make him feel my disappointment and rage. Instead, I look for ways to guide him in the right direction so he can learn. My son is my little frustrating blessing who is running around exploring the world around him.

As a mother, I understand he is not fully developed and I need to look for ways to teach him. One of my main responsibilities is to help him mature in a healthy way so he can become a confident, reliable young adult. Just as my son needs me, I need God every second of my life. My love towards my son is just a little reflection of God’s love that reminds me His love is so full and perfect that I will never fully comprehend it with my mind. If I, a sinner, an imperfect person, love my son deeply and want only the best for him, is not the perfect God a million times better than me? He wants the best for his daughter and is committed to guide her in the right direction. Our Heavenly Father will discipline us but will never punish us, Those who reject Christ will see punishment (Matthew 25:46, John 3:36, John 3:16-18, Romans 6:23) but His children will experience His grace. When He allows the hardships of this life and sinful world to come our way, He will guide us in the right direction to build our character so we become more like Christ (Romans 8:29, Romans 5:3-5). He does not see you as worthless! Quite the opposite, you are so dear to Him that He gave His Son to save you from wrath and punishment. When you trusted Christ as your Savior, He adopted you into His family and put you on the same level as His Son. You are now His daughter (John 1:12).

How you become a God’s child

The big question is, “Have you embraced Jesus as your Savior?” In many churches at the end of the sermon, a pastor will invite people to come forward or pray to receive Jesus Christ in their heart. This is extremely important because only by believing in Him can you become a child of God (John 1:12). Many come to Christ at the end of the service, but there are a lot of other places where you can accept Jesus. No matter if you prayed by your bed, in your car, during work, with a friend, or in nature, God heard you. If you did that sincerely, you became God’s child immediately. And if you have not done that yet, you can do it now, no matter where you are. You can ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart by repeating a prayer something like this:

“Lord, I believe that Jesus Christ has come to this world to save me from eternal punishment by dying on the cross for my sins and rising on the third day. I ask You to forgive my sins and come to my heart and be the Lord of my life, in Jesus’ name, amen.”

Now that you have

Here are some verses from the Bible that states that you are God’s child:

Galatians 3:26

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Romans 8:14

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Galatians 4:7

“Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”

John 1:12

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name”

I pray that you will encourage this truth in your life and never let any other thoughts tell you that you are not a child of God or that your salvation can be taken away from you. As you accept Christ in your heart you become a child of God and an heir with Jesus Christ! Nothing can take away this privilege from you (Romans 8:31-39).
